Who is James? James is the son of a man named Quey and a woman named Nana Yaa. . Quey is the son of Effia Otcher..James is also of royal blood and status, as his grandfather, Osei Bonsu, was the Asante king. Unfortunately, his grandfather was killed, allegedly by the British men. James falls in love with a woman named Akosua, but winds up marrying another woman, Amma Atta. This marriage was organized by force from his father, rather than by attraction. He never sleeps in her hut, and eventually flees to rendezvous with Akosua, as she is his one true love. Who is Saleem Sinai? In Bombay, India, two mothers, Amina and Vanita have birth at the same time at the stroke of midnight, bringing two children into the world, Shiva and Saleem. Saleem was born August 15, 1947. This is the first Indian independence day, and Saleem claims that for this reason, he is important, being a part of this era. At the time of birth, Shiva and Saleem were switched at by a midwife at the nursery. This gives Saleem a life of prosperity and wealth, as his actual parents were impoverished.
